Tennis coaching is a rewarding career as you inspire people to start playing the game and empower them to fulfil their potential. Every day is a new challenge, from young children picking up a racket for the first time through to players chasing success in tournaments. Coaches in Durham & Cleveland are our invaluable partners in our work to grow tennis not only in our Clubs and venues but across all parts of the County. Our goal is to encourage and nurture new coaching talent at the same time as supporting and developing our existing network of coaches.
We work closely with the LTA Workforce team to engage with our coaches and ensure they are supported in their work. Our County Coach also has good links to all coaches to help share best practice, coordinate County coaching with coaches’ local programmes and ensure the Talent Pathway identifies every child with potential in the County.
All our Clubs and venues have LTA accredited coaches delivering their junior and adult coaching programmes, as a requirement of their registration with the LTA. This means members and all participants in coaching can be reassured that their coach has excellent coaching qualifications, an up-to-date and valid licence, full insurance, current DBS certification and training in safeguarding and First Aid.
Coach Accreditation is the LTA’s professional membership scheme for coaches. Its purpose is to provide relevant support to British coaches and their businesses so they can deliver great on-court experiences and grow their programmes.
Being a member of Coach Accreditation provides you with a stamp of approval that is recognised by the industry.
Current members of Coach Accreditation are able to download and print a certificate from their Coach Secure Area on the LTA website proving their status as Accredited or Accredited+. The certificate shows the dates of the accreditation period, as well as the date on which the certificate was printed.
Accredited coaches in Durham & Cleveland can be contacted via the LTA Find a Coach search.

In addition, our Workforce Lead Anne Clayton is keen to engage with all our coaches, share ideas and best practice and encourage them to help and support each other in their work. The annual Coaches Forum is a key element of coaching development work, with locally relevant content integrated into work on national priorities. All coaches are strongly encouraged to attend the Forum.
If you are considering starting out on your journey to become a qualified coach, you may be able to recover the cost of your first coaching qualifications with the support of your club or venue and Advantage Durham & Cleveland, a financial support package funded by Durham & Cleveland LTA to encourage the growth of tennis in the County.
