Seniors Tennis

Seniors Tennis runs national inter-County league competitions for age groups from Over 35 to Over 70 (Ladies) and Over 75 (Men’s). The Over 35’s tournament is held at Eastbourne in August, the remaining competitions are played on a ‘home or away’ basis between April and September.

As a small County, we are unable to compete at every age group and currently have teams representing Durham & Cleveland at:

Ladies

  • Over 40
  • Over 50
  • Over 60

Men's

  • Over 35
  • Over 45
  • Over 50
  • Over 55
  • Over 65
  • Over 70

Our Ladies Over 35 team achieved a remarkable milestone in the 2019 competition, winning Division 2 to secure promotion to Division 1 for the first time in the County’s history. A fantastic achievement at any time, and especially for a county of our size.

Players representing the County must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

  1. a) have been born or have permanent residence at date of birth within the County* boundaries
  2. b) currently have permanent residence within the County* boundaries, and have been there for at least 12 months immediately prior to the match or competition
  3. c) have lived in a permanent residence in the area for a period of at least five consecutive years at any time in their life

*County boundaries are those of County Durham, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Sunderland, Gateshead, South Tyneside

If you are interested in being considered to play in any of these Senior County teams, please contact us at admin@dclta.org with details of your experience, current club and age. As a guideline to the standard required, we are looking at players either participating in our various local leagues around the county in their club’s 1st or 2nd team or in Veterans teams at or near the top level at the appropriate age group. Our Senior teams will hold practice sessions at various times of the season, which provide an excellent opportunity for new players to present themselves.
